How do I use removable braces?
Removable braces usually have a long wire that runs across the front teeth. This wire is particularly delicate because it can bend easily. So when you pick up your braces, please hold them by the plastic or the small clips at the back of the braces.
Loose braces designed to stabilize tooth position (such asspace maintainers ) are usually worn only at night.
Loose braces designed to move your teeth should be worn 16 hours a day. Keep in mind that you should not wear them while eating, brushing your teeth, playing sports, or engaging in activities where there is a risk of injury to your head.
Some removable braces have a screw built into them. It usually has an arrow on it so you know which way to turn it. Your orthodontist will tell you exactly how often and in which direction to turn it.
Please follow all of your orthodontist’s instructions exactly so that the treatment is effective and no unwanted side effects occur!
When you get removable braces for the first time, it’s normal for a lot of saliva to build up in your mouth. Your brain thinks you’ve just put something to eat in your mouth and first has to “learn” that these are braces that shouldn’t be swallowed.
Pressure on your teeth is also normal. However, you shouldn’t have any pressure marks on your mucous membranes (gums, cheeks, etc.). If this happens, please contact your orthodontist.
